A last jewel for Cassandra – Joy and Hope

Trojan priestess Cassandra was given the gift of prophecy by the god Apollo. When she wouldn’t reciprocate his sexual advances, being unable to retract his gift, he instead cursed her to never be believed. Today Cassandra is the name given to scientists who identify future disasters but are unable to get anyone to believe them.

The European Chemical Society in their endangered elements periodic table suggests that if we continue to mine precious metals such as gold and copper, we may run out in around 100 years' time. Who is listening to this prediction and what are they doing about it?

We can recycle the copper and gold contained in electronic waste and work more frugally with these precious metals. But can we lift Apollo’s curse before we run out of time?
